New Zealand on Monday beat Papua New Guinea by seven wickets to win their last game in the T20 World Cup 2024 as they were unable to qualify for the Super 8 stage.

New Zealand chased down 79 in 12.2 overs.

Devon Convey was the top scorer for the Kiwis with 35 runs off 32 balls, while skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell contributed 18 and 19 runs, respectively.

Kabua Morea took two wickets for PNG while Semo Kamea got one.

New Zealand had bowled out Papua New Guinea for 78 after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.

Lockie Ferguson was the standout bowler for New Zealand with a record-equalling spell, taking three wickets without conceding a run. He is only the second bowler to achieve this feat in T20 World Cup history. Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Ish Sodhi each claimed two wickets.

Charles Amini top-scored for PNG with 17 runs, while Norman Vanua added 14.

Both teams have already been eliminated from the tournament, with New Zealand exiting after losing to Afghanistan and the West Indies in their first two matches.
